AU Central Library Presents Kindness RocksAU Central Library Presents Kindness Rocks
A Creative Activity for Classes, Clubs, Teams, and Campus Events
Assumption University’s Central Library has launched Kindness Rocks as a bookable group activity for AU schools, classes, student clubs, faculty teams, orientation programs, retreats, and campus events.
The creative workshop invites participants to paint small rocks with messages of gratitude, kindness, encouragement, and hope. Once completed, the rocks can be shared, displayed, or placed around campus as simple reminders that a few thoughtful words can brighten someone’s day.
The activity builds on the success of AU Library’s earlier Kindness Rocks initiative, which brought together students, faculty, staff, and members of the wider community to create uplifting messages during a high-stress academic period. That first activity was part of the Green Library Initiative and was designed to support well-being, connection, creativity, and sustainability across the AU community.
Now, AU Library is making the activity available by request, giving groups an easy way to add a meaningful, hands-on experience to meetings, classes, camps, orientations, and special programs.

The concept is simple: the library provides the rocks, paints, brushes, and materials; participants bring the creativity. Sessions can be adapted for different group sizes and purposes, from a light team-building activity to a reflective workshop on gratitude, values, sustainability, and community care. More than a craft activity, Kindness Rocks connects directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by giving participants a relaxing space to slow down, reflect, and express positive thoughts. It supports SDG 4: Quality Education by turning creative expression into experiential learning. It also reflects SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by strengthening a sense of belonging and care within the campus community, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by encouraging mindful use of simple shared materials. |

The activity also reflects AU Library’s expanding role as a space for learning, creativity, wellness, and community engagement. While libraries remain essential places for study and research, AU Library continues to create activities that help students and staff connect beyond the classroom.
Kindness Rocks is especially suitable for student clubs and organizations, classroom activities, faculty and staff teams, retreats, school visits, orientation groups, and campus wellness events. The activity can be used as an icebreaker, reflection session, SDG learning activity, or simply as a fun and meaningful break from busy academic life.
At the end of each session, participants leave with more than a painted rock. They leave with a message to share, a moment of reflection, and a small reminder that kindness does not need to be complicated to matter.
