Assumption University will officially observe Asarnha Bucha Day on Thursday, July 10, and Khao Phansa (Buddhist Lent Day) on Friday, July 11, 2025. In recognition of these important national holidays, there will be no classes, and the University Library will be closed on both days.

Asarnha Bucha Day, also known as Dhamma Day, commemorates the Buddha’s first sermon—The Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta—which introduced the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path. It is considered the day when the Buddha first shared his teachings with the world, giving birth to the Sangha (monastic community) and setting the Wheel of Dhamma in motion.

The following day, Khao Phansa marks the beginning of Buddhist Lent, a traditional three-month period during the rainy season when monks stay in their monasteries to deepen their study and meditation practices. It is also a time when laypeople renew their spiritual commitments and engage in acts of merit-making, such as offering candles and alms to temples.

Assumption University encourages all students, faculty, and staff to use this meaningful pause as a time for reflection, cultural appreciation, and spiritual renewal.

Regular classes and services will resume on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
