AU Library Marks World Environment Day with a Call for Climate Action

Assumption University Library marked World Environment Day 2026 by inviting the AU community to reflect on the shared responsibility of protecting the planet through small, practical actions that support a more sustainable future.

Observed every year on June 5, World Environment Day is the United Nations’ leading global platform for encouraging environmental awareness and action. The 2026 campaign focused on climate action, reminding individuals, institutions and communities that environmental responsibility begins with daily choices.

For AU Library, the occasion reinforced the role of academic libraries not only as centers of learning, but also as spaces that support responsible citizenship, environmental awareness and sustainable living. Through information access, learning resources and campus engagement, the Library continues to encourage students, faculty and staff to make sustainability part of everyday life.

This year’s message highlighted simple actions that everyone could take: sorting waste properly, reducing single-use plastics, saving energy, conserving water, choosing reusable items and supporting greener campus habits. These small steps, practiced consistently, could help reduce waste, lower environmental impact and build a culture of care across the university.

World Environment Day also connected closely with Assumption University’s broader commitment to education, social responsibility and sustainable development. By promoting environmental awareness, AU Library supported the university’s mission to prepare learners who are not only academically capable, but also mindful of their responsibility to society and the world.

As the global community responded to the call for climate action, AU Library encouraged every member of the AU community to take part in building a greener tomorrow.

Small actions today can create a better future for all.
