BOBO’s Big Heart: Teen Donates His Beloved Books and Games to AU Library
On the day he officially became a teenager, 13-year-old BoBo Lee, a Year 7 student at NIST International School, marked the milestone not with a party or cake, but with an act of generosity that’s inspiring the AU community. In a gesture that reflects both his love for learning and his compassion for others, BoBo donated his prized book collection, along with a selection of games, puzzles, toys and a Kindle e-reader to Assumption University’s library before he heads to Taiwan to continue his studies.
The collection includes some of BOBO’s favorite reads, notably titles from Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid (among the best-selling book franchises in the world) and Dav Pilkey's wildly popular Dog Man series which appeals to readers of all ages and explores universally positive themes, including empathy, kindness, persistence, and the importance of being true to one's self. It’s easy to imagine why a young reader would treasure such a series, but even more inspiring is BoBo’s willingness to share that joy with others. |
“Books have always been a big part of my life”, said BoBo, “and I wanted other people to have the chance to enjoy them too.”
It doesn’t stop at books. His donation also includes comic books, learning resources for those interested in studying Chinese, and a variety of games and toys that are sure to bring smiles to less fortunate children in the community. BoBo’s generosity has been matched by his mother, Ms. Elsa Lam, who contributed a computer and printer to Dr. Scott Smith to help support the library’s growing needs.
This thoughtful donation is now part of the AU Library’s special collection, named Bobo’s Books and Games, and it’s already capturing the attention of both students and faculty. The collection offers a blend of beloved children's literature, practical learning tools, and simple joys like board games and action figures—a treasure trove for both study breaks and learning sessions.
The AU Library invites the community to visit and experience the collection for themselves. Whether you’re looking for resources to sharpen your Chinese language skills, or just want to unwind with a good comic, Bobo’s Books and Games has something for everyone.
In a world that often seems dominated by technology and the rush of modern life, BOBO Lee’s generous donation serves as a gentle reminder of the enduring power of books, toys, and simple kindness. The AU Library staff hopes that this collection will not only entertain but also inspire others in the community to consider what they can share.
“We are incredibly grateful to BoBo and Ms. Lam for their thoughtful contributions,” said Dr. Scott. “The books, games, and learning resources will benefit our students for years to come, and we’re excited to see how the collection grows from here.”
For those looking to relive the magic of childhood or seeking new ways to engage with language and learning, a stop by the AU Library to explore Bobo’s Books and Games is a must.
