Building Integrity: Turnitin Workshops at AU

On September 3, 2024, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) took a big step towards promoting academic integrity by hosting a Turnitin training workshop for faculty and supporting staff. Organized by the Central Library in collaboration with Book Promotion & Service Co. Ltd., this workshop was all about empowering our educators with the tools they need to ensure originality and honesty in student work.

Turnitin is well-known for its ability to check for plagiarism, but as Mr. Jirawat Promporn, Head of Academic e-resources support at Book Promotion & Service Co. Ltd., emphasized, it’s more than just a detection tool. “Turnitin helps guide students to produce their best, most original work,” he explained during the session.
The workshop covered everything from setting up instructor accounts to generating reports on paper originality. The participants, representing various faculties, engaged enthusiastically, learning how to integrate these practices into their teaching. This wasn’t just about learning new software—it was about embracing AU’s values of honesty and excellence.
Mrs. Wilai Pruesapancha, Department Head of Information Services and Learning Support, shared her thoughts on the importance of this training: “At AU, we believe that teaching integrity is just as important as teaching knowledge. This workshop is a great example of how we can support our faculty in guiding students towards ethical academic practices.”

As the day ended, it was clear that the workshop had made a lasting impact. Our educators left with not just new skills, but a renewed commitment to fostering integrity in their classrooms. This commitment will shape the future of AU, ensuring that our students are prepared to lead with honesty and respect for the truth.
At Assumption University, we’re not just teaching; we’re building character. And with tools like Turnitin, we’re making sure our students grow into the kind of leaders who value originality and integrity in everything they do.
